Mercedes-Benz SLK named as Germany's Most Beautiful Car
It doesn't come much as a surprise but rather a flattering affirmation that Mercedes-Benz is one of the most awarded premium vehicle manufacturers ever. The company's latest in its long list of achievements is the awarding of AUTO BILD magazine's Design Award to the Mercedes-Benz SLK. Following the tire tracks of the E-Class back in 2009 and the SLS AMG last year, the SLK makes the company proud by bagging the prize for 2011.
Almost 90,000 loyal readers of the popular AUTO BILD specialist magazine voted for Mercedes-Benz's latest SLK roadster. Now, proudly sitting on top of its hood are bragging rights as Germany's most beautiful car, a title the SLS AMG dutifully held the previous year upon shocking Mercedes-Benz fans everywhere of its supercar performance.
A big part of the SLK's charm is its open-air configuration, allowing the driver and passenger to enjoy a higher level of driving and riding pleasure like never before. Despite its extremely stylish physique, the SLK is no pushover with its agility. Leading with an aggressive new design, the 2012 Mercedes-Benz
SLK-Class draws on its racing pedigree to redefine the roadster
experience. And the result is an exhilarating vehicle engineered for
escaping the everyday with the top down and the throttle open.
You'll see it reflected in the muscular styling, led by a heroic grille
that proudly displays the Mercedes-Benz emblem. Sculpted headlights
underscored by LED Daytime Running Lights and wraparound LED taillights
grace front and rear, respectively, and design cues all around come from
the iconic SLS AMG.
Inside the cockpit, innovations abound. Overhead, the available MAGIC
SKY CONTROL panoramic roof panel can vary its tint from light to dark at
the touch of a button. The optional AIRSCARF neck-level heating system
extends the top-down driving season by providing warmth on brisk days.
In addition, our optional AIRGUIDE provides an innovative wind-blocking
system to reduce in-cabin turbulence. And of course, the SLK-Class is
equipped with a hardtop that retracts silently in less than 20 seconds.
In the all-new 2012 SLK-Class, Mercedes-Benz also sets new standards of
safety for convertible sports cars. Entering its third generation, this

driver drowsiness monitoring. Available in conjunction with DISTRONIC
PLUS adaptive cruise control, the landmark PRE-SAFE® anticipatory
occupant protection system can prepare the cabin for impact - and even
apply the brakes automatically - if an impending collision is detected.
What's more, standard mbrace in-vehicle communications technology will
automatically call for help should any of the vehicle's eight airbags
deploy.
With an advanced V-6 engine under the hood, the power of 2012 SLK-Class
Roadsters is polished by an adaptive seven-speed automatic transmission.

Direct-Steer System technology.

Mercedes-Benz Unveils SLS AMG Roadster
Mercedes-Benz has released photos of its all-new SLS AMG Roadster.
The convertible SLS AMG Roadster is the second car to be developed independently by AMG. The SLS AMG gullwing coupe was launched last year.
Mercedes says the convertible will have 563 horsepower and a top speed of 197 miles per hour. It'll also handle just like the coupé, thanks to modifications that increase the rigidity of the body (the cross-member under the dash has additional supporting struts; a structure between the soft top and the tank stiffens the rear axle).
Rigidity in a roadster is important because it prevents unwanted vibrations while the car is on the road, which eliminates the need for additional (and heavy) vibration dampers. In fact, the body of the Roadster is relatively light. It weighs 536 pounds, practically equal to the 531-pound SLS AMG Coupe.
Mercedes hasn't released complete specifications yet, but it has reported that the soft top of the Roadster will open and close in 11 seconds, at driving speeds up to 31 mph. One cool new feature: A continuous water pocket attached below the top catches rainwater and directs it to the car's underbody via two openings on each side.
Mercedes will unveil the SLS AMG Roadster to the public at the International Automobile Show in Frankfurt in September; production will start soon after. The car is currently being tested in Stuttgart, Germany.

The All New Mercedes-Benz 2012 CLS-Class Coupé
When the CLS-Class first arrived on the scene in 2005, it created more than a groundswell of attention. It created a new vehicle category. The fierce elegance of a coupe was imbued with the wherewithal--not to mention the four doors--of a sedan. And the rest is history. Until now.
Although the CLS remains a captivating anomaly in today's automotive landscape, an enthralling new incarnation was unveiled in October at the Paris Auto Show. And it promises to define an entire class of vehicle. Again.
One look at the long hood, frameless side windows, and flowing roofline reveals how it pays homage to the coupes of Mercedes-Benz past. Yet the transformed front end - sporting an aggressive, upright grille with integrated three-pointed-star -- emphatically points to the road ahead. Powerful contours slope rearward from the front wheel wells with newfound swagger, while flared wheel arches and massive air inlets with black grilles add further definition to its muscular appearance.
The all-new 2012 CLS also boasts the world's first headlamps to offer full LED capability for all of its dynamic light functions--71 LEDs in all. Wraparound tail lights featuring LED technology close the luminously redesigned circle. One that extends inward, as well.
The exclusive, stitched dashboard now stretches all the way across the cockpit -- from the driver's door to that of the front passenger. Satin and high-gloss finishes join details such as a high-gloss-trimmed analogue clock. Painstaking details, that is, like hand-stitched and hand-fitted leather seat covers.
Of course, the all-new 2012 CLS550 Coupe delivers performance just as meticulously crafted. Just unleash the 402 horsepower from its biturbo V-8 engine, and you'll see, hear and feel precisely how.
Or quicken your pulse even more with the 2012 CLS63 AMG. Its all-new, handcrafted 5.5-liter twin-turbo Direct Injection V-8 delivers 518 hp and 0-60 mph in just 4.4 seconds.[3] And yet its advanced features and lighter weight result in lower emissions and improved everyday efficiency as well. The optional AMG Performance Package raises peak output to 550 hp, and shaves another tenth off the 0-to-60 run.
A new 7-speed SPEEDSHIFT MCT automatic features a wet startup clutch and three driving modes, including one with an innovative ECO Start/Stop system and a paddle-shifted Manual mode with 100-millisecond shifts. From the console, the AMG DRIVE UNIT offers three selectable setups for the transmission, multi-mode suspension, steering and 3-mode ESP® -- including a driver-customizable program engaged by pushing a button labeled with the three letters that tell the whole story: "AMG."

Special G-Class editions released
Mercedes-Benz proudly releases two brand new models of the G-Class off-road vehicle. The twins, known as the Edition Select and the BA3 Final Edition, can be differentiated by their wheelbase length ? one being longer than the other.
Two variants will be offered for the shorter BA3 Final Edition model, specifically the G350 BlueTEC whose 6-cylinder diesel engine is capable of 211 hp and 540 Nm and the G 500 with a 5.5-liter gasoline engine which can easily churn out 388 hp and 530 Nm.
Both models feature Mercedes-Benz's permanent all-wheel drive system with off-road ratio as well as a 7G-TRONIC 7-speed automatic tranny. And then there's the standardized electronically controlled traction system featuring three differential locks, ESP and 4ETS.
Inside both models you'll find a generous helping of comfort with a telephone system incorporated into the armrest, rubber mats to cover up the footwells as well as a huge load compartment and cover to handle all extra cargo.
Meanwhile, the Edition Select model will be offered exclusively with a dual-tone paintjob. The company will not be charging extra for whatever color combination customers choose upon purchasing the G 500 Station Wagon. Likewise, the interior design is two-tone using lots of porcelain and black design leather.

Mercedes-AMG Returns as Title Sponser of Miami Beach Polo World Cup
Montvale, NJ - Mercedes-Benz USA announces that its Mercedes-AMG performance brand is returning for a second season as title sponsor of the Miami Beach Polo World Cup from April 21st to April 24th, 2011, and plans to showcase the all-new 2012 CLS63 AMG to Southern Florida car enthusiasts.
The AMG Miami Beach Polo World Cup, the official branded event property, is the world's largest polo tournament to take place on a beach and this year's event benefits Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Miami and the National Foundation for Missing and Exploited Children. In its seventh consecutive season, the separate men's and women's polo events take place on Miami Beach between 20th and 22nd streets behind The Setai Hotel.

Daimler Donates 2 Million Euros to Japan
Daimler donated 2 million euros for Japan, with an undisclosed recipient. The company only says that the funds will be helping the quake and tsunami victims. Daimler has promised additional material and logistic aid should they be necessary.
"The consequences of the earthquake in Japan are still hard to comprehend. This is all the more reason for us to demonstrate our active solidarity with the people affected by making this donation." said Daimler chairman Dr. Dieter Zetsche.
